| Title | Remember When...a ski jump rose in Gordon Park? |
| Description | Neither drizzle, nor warm weather, nor a freak thunderstorm could dampen the enthusiasm of the 20,000 spectators drawn to this event - the first annual ski tournament, Feb. 8, 1925, in Gordon Park. Skiing champions from across the nation accepted the invitation of the Milwaukee Ski Club to try out the new ski slide at the park, located on the west bank of the Milwaukee River at E. Locust St. Capturing the prize for the longest jump that day was Lars Haugen of St. Paul, Minn., who soared 85 feet through the air. The lack of snow due to warm temperatures nearly caused the cancellation of the meet, but diehards searched the county for snowbanks and found one in Lincoln Park and one in Whitefish Bay. The night before the meet, workers trucked the snow from bank to ski slide, and the show went on as scheduled.
