| Title | Remember When...6th and Wisconsin looked like this? |
| Description | Back in 1922, this was the view that greeted Milwaukeeans at the northeast corner of 6th st., and Grand av. (now N. 6th st. and W. Wisconsin av.). In place of the many storied Carpenter building were shops housing the following establishments: The Hillside Inn Palm Garden, serving soft drinks (prohibition was still in effect); Leo Cooper's restaurant featuring chili con carne and hot tamales; Choplas and Andrekopoulous, shoe shiners; a candy store operated by Mrs. Florence Pegis, confectioner; the retail store of the Carpenter Baking Co., featuring Betsy Ross bread, the bread that "eats like cake"; a novelty store, Martha Kerbash, proprietor; the Munro Tailoring Co., the Home Dairy, the Winter Piano Co. and Floyd Byrun's cigar store. The only establishment that still is in business at the same location is the Strand theater. A look down 6th st. on the photo shows that at the time it was a residential area.
