| Title | Remember When...nice weather brought strollers to Mitchell Park? |
| Description | In the early 1900s, Milwaukeeans of all ages could be found enjoying the sunken gardens at Mitchell Park when the weather turned fine. Men, women and children wore hats to shade their heads from the sun as they strolled about, and some women used umbrellas as well. There was a variety of greenery to enjoy. The "History of Milwaukee County, " written in the 1930s, describes the gardens as being 600 feet long, 250 feet wide and containing 100, 000 plants arranged in formal designs. The conservatory, which stood at one end of the gardens, was built in 1898. The gardens themselves and the water mirror were completed in 1904. Today, Milwaukeeans still enjoy the beauty of Mitchell Park, although the surroundings have changed considerably and the three glass domes have replaced the original conservatory building.
