| Title | Remember When...service station attendants wore smiles - and ties? |
| Description | The customers who drove into Badger Auto Service at 35th St. and Fond du Lac Ave. for gas, oil or maintenance were greeted by cheerful attendants who wore uniforms that included ties. The year was 1936, and gas prices were a lot lower then. Wadhams ethyl gasoline was 20.3 cents a gallon, but the less expensive fuel was 16.3 cents. At that time, stations sold more than one company's brand of gasoline. This station had pumps for its own brand as well as Wadhams, Texaco and Mobile. The men in the photo, from left, are Paul J. Rossman, Norman Mangert, Walter Rossman, Victor Wehrwein, Dillon Morrisey, Charles Springer and Arthur Cornelius. Photograph courtesy of I.C. Scroggins; information from the Milwaukee Public Library local history collection. |
