| Title | Remember When...baseball fans flocked to Athletic Field? |
| Description | Around the turn of the century, baseball fans turned out in large numbers for the home games at Athletic Field. Later, in 1913 and 1914, the American Association pennant flew at the park as a reminder that the first Milwaukee Brewers were champions for two successive years, increasing the team's following even more. Athletic Field was at N. 8th and W. Chambers Sts. Built in 1892, the original stadium was one block square and was enclosed by a high fence. In 1920, when Otto Borchert became president of the Milwaukee Baseball Club, he bought the ball park and renamed it Borchert Field. The stadium at this site welcomed fans until the fall of 1952, when County Stadium was completed. Photograph and information from the Milwaukee Public Library local history collection. |
