| Title | Remember When...2nd and Wells was a secondhand center? |
| Description | Resembling a miniature Maxwell St., used suits, coats, shoes and sundries were bought and sold in the 200 block of W. Wells St. in the early 1900s. Sandwiched in between the racks of apparel was the John Buschinger Shoe Repair Shop, where men's half soles were put on for 50 cents while you waited. Rooms could be rented on the second and third floors of the building for 25 and 50 cents a night. A sampling of the cultural activities of the day are reflected in the theater posters advertising Sunday afternoon "Travelogues" at the Alhambra, "On Trial for His Life" at the Bijou, and "Sampson" at the Davidson. Note the City Hall in the right background. (Picture and information from the Milwaukee Public Library local history collection.) |
