| Biography | Born November 13, 1876, in Milwaukee. Scion of a wealthy pioneering family. Served on county board and common council. Elected mayor in 1906 at the age of 29. Attracted nationwide attention as Milwaukee's boy mayor. Drove around in his red auto, one of the largest and fastest in the city. Made a spectacular auto trip to New York. Tried to walk to Chicago with Edward Payson Weston, famous pedestrian, but gave out at Racine. Fire fan. Enemy of sidewalk obstructions such as jewelers' clocks, which he assisted in destroying. Republican. Financier. Lived in New York City until he died February 5, 1949. |
