| Biography | Born October 22, 1811, in Lynchburg, Virginia. Came to Milwaukee in 1834. Founded Walker's Point, beginning of the city south of the Menomonee River. Democrat. Appointed register of the government land office when it was established in 1845. Speaker of the territorial assembly. Elected mayor in 1851 and again in 1853. Built first street railway in Milwaukee. Died at his home on the East side September 20, 1866, at the age of 54. |
