Title	Remember When...MacArthur Square got its clock tower?
Description	This summer Milwaukeeans once again will enjoy MacArthur Square with its unique clock tower. The Schoenleber Memorial Clock Tower on the plaza was erected as a family memorial and gift to the people of Milwaukee 15 years ago. It stands on the site of the Schoenleber-Theede family home built in 1890 at 264-266 10th St. It was the first property deeded at its assessed valuation to Milwaukee County in 1925 for the present Courthouse building project. The 85-foot tower is made of three structural steel arches and has a clock, stage and carillon. The teardrop clock, suspended from the vaulted roof, is 23-feet-high and weighs 2 ½ tons. Here workmen hung the clock in December 1969. Each of the clock's three faces is six feet in diameter and has hands three feet long. Below the clock is the stage with its scenes of early Wisconsin and Milwaukee. In 1894, Otto J. Schoenleber, already a successful businessman, began a new enterprise and founded the Ambrosia Chocolate Co. Schoenleber, who died in 1927, was active in various community organizations. The clock tower was a gift of his daughters Marie, Gretchen and Louise Schoenleber in memory of their parents, Otto J. and Emma Theede Schoenleber.
