a
good
sweets
shop
should have in
1916
. A
long
counter
with
stools
for
customers
to
enjoy
fountain
creations
was on
one
side
of the
store
. The
fancy
glass
jars
contained
mixed
fruits
and
toppings
for
sundaes
. On the
opposite
side
of the
store
were
cases
of
bakery
products
. A
small
delicatessen
next
to the
bakery
sold
various
items
, from
Fels-Naptha
soap
to
fresh
fruit
and
dairy
products
. The
shop
was a
popular
neighborhood
spot
for
couples
to
stop
after
a
movie
and
sit
at
tables
in the
back
under
hanging
plants
. A
sign
there
listed
a
few
of the
traditional
ice
cream
flavors
available
at a
nickel
or a
dime
a
dish
.

pictured
here with a
girlfriend
in the
back
of the
store
,
tells
us the
store
was
lucky
enough
to
serve
the "
exclusive
"
Luick
ice
cream
. Her
father
,
Herman
Jens
,
who
owned
the
store
is
at the
right
. The
little
girl
in the
center
is
Esther
Jens
Reid
,
Herman’s
other
daughter
.
