joined

Chicago
firm
and in
1936
returned
to
become
assistant
city
attorney
. He
waged
a
vigorous
campaign
for
mayor
and
upset
incumbent
Dan
Hoan
in
1940
. A
nominal
Republican
,
Zeidler
ran
unattached
. His
support
came
from from a
private
following
built
upon
his
own
personal
youth
movement
and
affiliation
with
25
local
organizations
. On
April
16
,
1942
, he
left
for the
service
.
Became
gunnery
officer
on the
LaSalle
. This
ship
was
last
seen
September
26
,
1942
leaving
Canal
Zone
.
Navy
declared
him
legally
dead
November
8
,
1944
.
