Description |
Opponent was Willy. His term saw construction of the first city jail, management of the poor farm and construction of another drawbridge at the foot of Jackson Street. City charter was amended to extend city limits. Smith was Wesleyan graduate, edited Fond du Lac newspaper, and taught at University of Wisconsin and US Naval Academy. Organized and was president of the First National Bank. Two newspapers, Appleton Volksfreund and outagamie times were published for the first time. |
