Herb Harris Postcard Collection
Herb Harris (1910-2002) was devoted to the City of Dodgeville and especially to its parks. He was a member of the Parks Commission for over 50 years and Dodgeville's newest park is named for him. He was an avid photographer and his pictures of community activities are preserved in albums at Dodgeville Public Library. One collection of his pictures shows buildings being torn down to make way for "progress." He was also a collector of historic postcards and after his death his wife Irene donated a collection of them to the Iowa County Historical Society, where Herb was a member for many years. The photographs on these postcards show how one of Wisconsin's most historic cities developed during the early part of the 20th century. They depict early Dodgeville street scenes as well as residences, churches, hospitals, schools, government buildings and businesses.
We think that Herb would be pleased to share this collection with interested people locally and throughout the state and nation.
