About this collection

The archives of Milwaukee Area Technical College are the hidden gems of the school, demonstrating how the vocational educational system began in Milwaukee in 1912 and how it has grown throughout the years. In 2012, MATC celebrated its 100-year anniversary and many of the materials made available here were also included in publications for the centennial celebration.
MATC is a national leader in vocational education. The college was founded in 1912 with the goal of removing children from labor abuses that were common around the turn of the 20th century and providing them an education to further enhance their career goals without abuse. MATC has grown many times over since its beginnings and now is a fully accredited college with students of all ages.
The MATC digital collections depict this growth by illustrating how the college’s academic programs have evolved to meet the changing needs of the Milwaukee business and manufacturing communities. The archives also depict how the college helped support the needs of the country during World War II.
